Dog portraits take time

The dog in the shot looks very relaxed. However, it was a dog that just kept on moving about. Capturing this split second shot over the hour plus shoot was a challenge.  Working with animals you certainly need the patience nothing is rushed.  The way the lighting is set up the dog has to sit in a precise position on the set to achieve the light on the eyes.  Even before we start, I try to get know the dog letting it go and walk around the studio making itself at home.

As with people portraits it’s very much about waiting for that moment to capture their true personality.
